Bagging a Bargain on Big Ticket Items

We all want to buy locally made products and support our retailers, it is unrealistic to suggest people are going to pay more than they might if there is a bargain on offer. When families need to buy the big ticket items start local but also don’t forget to bargain. You’ll be amazed at the extra value.

Ask for a discount when you’re buying expensive items like televisions, fridges and sofas, especially if you’re paying cash (or using a debit card) or offering to take a display item. Start by offering 20 per cent less and see if you can negotiate a 10 per cent discount as your base line or “walk away” level.

Go shopping at the end of the month as many stores are struggling to meet monthly sales targets and may offer better discounts to boost sales and reach their budgets. Also hold off for a month on that big purchase, as businesses will then start their end of financial year sales.

Hi Kochie,
As a small business owner I find the latest reporting on cheaper USA prices very misleading, YES their prices are cheaper however how about we report how much lower their wages are, how they only get 2 weeks a year holidays until they have been with the Company 10 years, how much their rents are, how they don't get Company Cars, how they did not have private health paid for them. Doing business in the USA is much cheaper than here and I certainly do not get 140% mark up.
